Yeah just buy an external player, there aren't many cons, mainly just awkwardness and not as fast read and write times (not a problem for movies) Here's a cheaper one http://www.amazon.com/AGPtek%C2%AE-External-Blu-ray-BD-ROM-Laptop/dp/B00A74AMM0/ref=sr_1_5?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1388290148&sr=1-5&keywords=external+blu+ray+drive

If you have USB 3 port, that would be fantastic, but the external USB players should also work on USB 2 ports. To play video (like Blu-ray), you don't need a very powerful computer. Most media players support Blu-Ray (perhaps with a plugin) but I highly recommend VLC (http://www.videolan.com) or XBMC (http://xbmc.org). Both are free players that don't require additional codecs or plugins and they work on multiple platforms. XBMC even has the advantage that it can read straight out of zip and rar files, in case you ever downloaded a video file.

Here there are some blu-ray players and you can try the iReal blu-ray media player. You can use it in your PC and it is very convenient. With it, you won't worry about your travel any more.

A Blu-ray drive is necessary for read Blu-ray disc. VLC+XBMC can not support most of the commercial Blu-ray discs. Refers to a way to enjoy Blu-ray with VLC: http://blog.bluray-player-software.com/play-blu-ray-freely-with-vlc-media-player/
