they have funds and those funds are investing in some other funds you have to read for fund a mutual fund and the investors of Vanguard decide which shares they buy for a specific fund or even bonds for more information visit the site and read the leaflets in general for all those companies that have mutual funds some funds are only for some financial products and the biggest amount are freely available under some rules lowest amount of money or lowest amount of shares and where to buy and is it possible to buy when living in a foreign country when you want to compare and to do your own research use the cusip code of those funds to avoid reading the wrong information

Vanguard has both actively managed and index funds. The activly managed funds cost a bit more, but I prefer them over the index funds since the manager can move quickly in and out of certain positions. One of the best activly managed fund that I like is Vanguard Wellington fund (VWELX). It has a great performance and return on your investment.
