I would try some ammonia, be sure not to mix ammonia with anything other than water.

It will help soak up a new stain If you spill red wine by quickly using salt to cover it It will absorb the wine and make cleaning it more easy But you did not specify what the red stain was ? If the red stain is marker pen or paint Salt wont help at all

Depends on what the red stain is. If it is wine, rub a paste of lemon juice and salt on it. If it is blood, soak it in cold water for at least a half hour, then put on some stain remover, then wash in COOL soapy water.
