My first car in highschool was an 2004 Subaru STI, bought it for $15k, used with 30k miles on it. If you in the market for a brand new spankin car for $40k, i would get a nicer car like puffs suggested like a Audi or Lexus

Being an owner myself I'm going to say yes it's worth it. But that's ME. The car is definitely worth it if it's the car you want, and if you will find yourself heading to the track now and then you'll enjoy it even more. These cars are meant for the enthusiasts and won't appeal to the average driver looking for reliability, comfort and a car that flashes their status. The interiors aren't exactly the highest quality and everything rattles sooner or later but it's a car that will make you smile every time you turn the key. If all you want is a good reliable A to B car I suggest the base model Impreza or other models like the Legacy and Outback. Or even the "high quality" BMW/Audi's as mentioned above... But if you want a unique daily driver with much more kick to it than the average car then the WRX/STI may be for you. Look into insurance costs too, these cars aren't in the cheapest category and gas is expensive.
