I'm not sure about love but animals have the ability to feel. A horse can grieve over a lost offspring, they are group animals who seldom like to be alone so to them you seem part of their group. You are also the provider of food and affection and so you are the alpha in the herd as it were.

Answer #6 | 14/01 2014 09:25
Yes, in my opinion they CAN love. The other day, I was crying because I am going through a parent's divorce. So, a big black Fox Trotter gelding named Clipper came right up to me and started licking my face. It was purely affectionate, he wasn't looking for food- he just came right up and started to lick me. I felt so loved, that I can't even write it into words.

Answer #9 | 15/01 2014 23:25
Yes, I think horses can love! I would like to think that my horse loves me on the same level and as much as I love him. Horses can form incredible bonds with each other why not humans?
Answer #10 | 15/01 2014 14:48
In their own way yes. I believe it is a matter of trust along with affection.
Answer #11 | 14/01 2014 19:47
The question is: Can animals love? and yes, but trust IS love. respect from your horse IS love. by trusting you a horse is saying that she doesn't think you could harm her, and that she will follow you whereever you go. that is pretty close to what humans feel when they love. and in most succsessul relationships in humans, there is a level of "best friends", that really adds a desire to know each other, and I think sometimes horses can be your best friend.
Answer #12 | 14/01 2014 18:58
Yes, If it's the right owner paired with the right horse. If that horse has basic needs cared for (shelter, clean water, food, protection). If that horse is happy what he is doing. If that horse is happy with how he lives (goes back to basic needs). If the owner attempts to bond. This doesn't have to be long bonding sessions, or even ground work. This has to be the owner showing the love with energy. There is a really great lady who is perfect at this. I think it all starts with whose right for who. Although we may think our horses are perfect for us, maybe they aren't. You know? I think a lot of things depend on this question. They may not all apply in every situation either. I just think that it really depends. But, yes horses can love. I also think that it isn't love like they show there horse friends, or they show in the wild. It's deeper than that. And it's a gift from above to feel that connection, bond, and love with another species, an animal that doesn't talk with words; it's just special.
