all blu-ray players need hdmi , the wifi on that player just lets it connect to the internet for apps like netflix , it does not connect to your TV with wifi some blu-rat players will work with a component cable but they may be black and white instead of in color , blu-ray will not be playable with a/v cables or most older sdTVs

Without an HDMI port you can't get full HD resolution which is the main reason for having a blu-ray player.

The Sony 3100 BluRay player has NO other outputs other than HDMI that deal with sending both picture and sound out. There is a digital coaxial audio (Only) output and and Ethernet INput. Thus, if your TV hasn't got an HDMI input, you're out of luck. You'll need an HDMI to composite converter box, like the one at the link. $36.
