Leave the Florida plates on it. If you get stopped, it's not your car.

This needs to be asked from your mother's insurance company and at any Georgia DMV office. Not here. This is both a legal issue and an insurance issue. Normally states require their residents to have cars registered. License and registration and insurance papers need to reflect a current address. You are a resident of Georgia. To bring a car from Florida to drive as your own may appear as fraud so as not pay Georgia taxes as to registration. Call and find out from official sources.
