Function can be mentioned as an action performed by a device, department or person that produces a result. It remains more or less fixed. On the other hand, objective may be referred to as something that one's effort or actions are intended to attain or accomplish. Thus, there is a very thin line of difference between these two terms. Eg:- The objective of a water supply it to get water into houses. The function of the pipe it to carry that water and the function of a tap is to control the flow of the water. The IF function checks a condition to determine a task to do. It is a logical function. VLOOKUP is a lookup function. It can search through a list to find a value or a position in a range, and then find a corresponding value. There are situations where both could be used. Sometimes a VLOOKUP is good for using in place of a nested IF that is having to search through a lot of options.
