Check with your local Ford dealer and see if they can use your Vin and cut you a key. It should save you some money.

Other are already talking about the dealer so I just wanted to add: The key alone is $70 click on the link to buy. Dealer is charging twice that much Then you have to call a locksmith to cut the key and program all the keys to the vehicle computer. if no locksmith available then go with the dealer but they probable want to use their key and charge you more so ask the dealer before you buy the new key and end up can't find a locksmith

I lost the key to my Ford Ranger. In order for it to be towed, I had to get in it and then get it out of gear.(I had backed it into the carport) Cost for the key to do that was 20.00. I was surprised when CAA first came to unlock the door (needed to get in to see if my key was inside) for me that the alarm did not go off. Ford said the vehicle had to be towed to them, so they could program a key so the vehicle would start (over 100.00). They also said that if I found my od keys (have 2 somewhere) would not work if a new key was programmed. Thank heaven's I found one of my keys, but only after I paid 20.00 to be able to get in so I could get it out of gear. The fob is used only to lock and alarm the vehicle.

This car key has to be programmed for the car. If you don't have the key blank you would be looking between $150-$200 to have a new key made from scratch in most areas of the country.

Downloaded the factory manual. I see there are two keys available. With remote lock/unlock and without. Anybody bought either key? I will want an extra key that I can program it right away in case I lose one as it takes two programmed keys to program a new one. Cost $$$ for dealer to do it and it is simple to do.
