8 gallons isn't enough to flush a rusted engine. You can pour in a cooling system cleaner to speed it up. But you run the risk of removing rust that's holding it together. Skip the full flush and pour in green coolant if you don't think the vehicle is worth another $10 in distilled water.

Straight water ? NO, First of all make sure you have the proper antifreeze, It should tell you on the container,, However, You switched engines so go with the 84 Chevy engine, Mixture should be 50/50 antifreeze and water, then you put it into the radiator, Start up the engine then make sure the radiator cap is off, Monitor the level and go from there,

Have you ever heard of the name "Coolant flush ?" . The procedure will requires a special machine to withdraw the old coolant or liquid or any fluid in the cooling system and during the process the technician will add cleaning chemical to clean out the entire cooling system of the vehicle, then a proper amount of fresh mixed coolant will be put into the system. Once every five years, this is what a cooling system need..
