Depends on your job and how much you use eMail but if its how you do all your communicating then its what you need to do to keep all your tasks moving forward ie you need to, to do your job

It`s the quickest and most cost effective way for me to communicate with my clients who are spread around the world. It also means that communications are in writing, so if at a later date any contradictions occur as to what was said both parties can refer to the relevant emails. Checking emails regularly keeps me up to date with project progress, clients' requirements, new business, problems etc.

I check mine twice a day sometimes three times. Not everyone gets urgent emails.
