It could be a lot of things, I would suspect a blocked radiator caused by ice or snow. A hill should not be a problem, or every car in the Rockies would always overheat

Its a pressurized system so the hill wont effect it. How is your coolant level? Oil level?

Check the coolant level (cold engine) and top it off at both radiator and the reservoir.. That's my guessing what the problem was..

Check the coolant level. If you diluted the coolant with water, then the water freezes and the car overheats
