Allot of it depends on the severity of the disability and the state that you live in. I have 2 children with autism and I was receiving SSI for them when they turned 3. SSI is a welfare program and is based on your income. If you have a good paying job that does not mean that you cant get it tho. Your first step is to have your child evaluated thru the city schools or thru the doctor and take that to the SSI office and just go from there. Good luck :)

It depends on how your childs autism affects HIM, not you. Daycare, working, none of that matters. What matters is how does your child function in his own life, compared to other children his age. Does he speak, potty trained, can he do any self care (pull up his pants), etc. Can he go to preschool/daycare? Consider how he is affected. I not only got my son with Aspergers approved (immediately no less) but was hired as an advocate after working with SPED kids at his school and only one kid did not get approved.
