McDonald's is a public restaurant, you're allowed to film in public as long as you aren't being a disturbance.

Of course you can. It is a public place and filming there is legal. If the manager goes ape on you just record it and send it to complaint. But if you are disturbing other customers then of course you can't film in there

The McDonalds will be on private property. If you want to record anything you must get permission to do so.

I have actually filmed inside McDonalds before, not behind the counter but inside the lobby. I worked there, and I was doing a high school media project. Of course I asked permission, and this specific store was independently owned along with three others. They franchise them out, so you just have to check with each store.
