Jim Butcher is a great author, but his two big series are pretty far along. The Dresden Files stories center on Harry Dresden, a cross between Phillip Marlowe and Merlin. As Chicago's only professional wizard, he is called upon to solved the truly bizzare cases that stump the regular cops. There is plenty of grown-up material here and about 12 novels so far. The Furries of Calderon is more of a traditional fantasy story with about 5 novels so far.

My favorite fantasy series is the Thomas Convenenant Chronicle by Donaldson. Its actually three sets of trilogies. the first one is almost 20 years old. so i guess its not current. but its great. https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/12980.Stephen_R_Donaldson?from_search=true For Science Fiction, i like the Honor Harrington series by David Weber. There are 10 of them. And the first one is pretty old but the newest one is pretty recent and there are going to be more so I think that its still current. https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8=✓&query=honor+harrington Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time which was something like 10 books and just finished. https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8=✓&q=wheel+of+time&search_type=books&search%5Bfield%5D=on
