A DVD or CD is an optical disk, or just plain disk. Get one that you can afford. Make sure the laptop has a USB port and get an external USB disk drive. A DVD drive will play anything except Blu-ray. If you plan to burn disks, get a drive that will burn also. It should come with all the software needed.

Yes, it is the exact same thing. DVDs, CDs, and games are all disks. So whether it says DVD drive, CD drive, or Disk drive, it will work. It works by plugging in to a USB port (those are the rectangular plugs on the side[s] of your laptop) and it will then do a few things automatically. Then you can just pop in a disk to the external disk drive and it will work the same as it would if the disk drive was built in.

External Blu-Ray. They are relatively cheap and you can get 22G on a Blu-Ray disk for backup. It will also do DVD and CD.
