Surely you mean "British school scores". I suggest that you go along to your son's school and ask them. It is no big deal. By the way there is no such thing as "9th grade" in the British school system.

British school is in a number of key stages, Years 1 - 3 are Key stage 1, Years 4 - 6 are key stage 2, Years 7 - 9 are Key stage 3 and Years 10 - 11 are GCSE. Normally grades are a number followed by A, B or C, the higher the number, the better the grade, if your son got a grade 5, he would either get a 5A, 5B or 5C.
