An antenna will get you a good portion of what you want. I have not missed a Colts game this year. Even the "ESPN exclusive" Monday Night Football is broadcast over the air if the Colts are playing. I'm sure the same is true for most, if not all, markets. Don't let CableCo fool you into thinking you'll be giving up all your sports if you drop cable TV. Basically, you'll be giving up one channel called ESPN. If the game is on CBS, ABC, NBC, or Fox, then you can get it for free with an antenna. Networks all have web sites where they tout their various shows. Many of these web sites allow you to stream their shows the day after they air on cable channels. If you have a Smart TV with a browser, or a computer connected to your TV via HDMI cable, then the link below is a great "bookmark to bookmarks" for the different network web sites. I use it quite a bit.
