Just feel that the role is yours and that you are able and capable to perform to the required level.

Well you should never be on your own in HMP. There is a Nurse in charge at all times and Prison Officers in with you. You will have to follow set rules regarding equipment, so you cannot be stressed out,- one pair of scissors missing can close the place down. It is a stressful job as Prisoners are volatile, this job is not for wimps. I work in a YOI and it is challenging. UK EDIT: Even so the same rules will apply. These youngsters can be dangerous.

I think you'll do absolutely fine. Some sort of shorts and flip flops with no top would be just fine in this case.

If you are quiet and can't work under stress do not work in a medium secure offenders establishment. People are looking for ways to get out. You have to be on your guard the whole time.

First of all, there's nothing wrong with being a quiet person. I can see how it can somehow interfere with your work as a nurse since I'm guessing nurses have to be able to think quickly and act. But it's not something you can't overcome and change. Second, if possible, I think you should find another mentor or supervisor. Someone that will guide you well, not someone that will make you feel so inferior. Working with a supervisor that is gonna be there to help you will make a big difference. Third, everyone at some point had to struggle with something related to work. Take it and learn from it. If you like nursing, continue on that path. If you really find it too stressful, consider another career. Why not? You should feel comfortable with the work you do!
