Try Ailsa Craig a good old fashioned reliable variety. We always grow it because we like out tomatoes to taste good.

Do not grow moneymaker they are terrible. Ailsa Craig and Alicante are not too bad but by far the best (my opinion) is Shirley. Shirley is a hybrid so it costs more. A hybrid is a cross between two definitive strains and will not breed true - this is the beauty of Shirley. Slice a Shirley tom and flick out the seeds onto a tissue and leave to dry completely then wrap it up and put it away. Before the start of the next season fill a tray with damp seed compost and place the seeded tissue on the top and cover with1/4in of damp compost. The resulting plants will be nothing like the parent but may produce a world beating new strain. I have been doing similar for some years now and I now have a new strain which has good size and tastes absolutely wonderful and it is now breeding true. Try it and good luck.
