our gender is often in the news being battered, raped and killed, and their bodies scritinized and their mouths silenced. too often.

No, I'm not at all embarrassed at the fact that women arent in the news for shelling children on a beach.

Well, let's see - do men really want to be in the news? There's the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, there's the rocketing of the passenger plane - Bill Clinton is in the news again because of an affair, etc etc. You can have it all.

Since most of the new news is bad, my bet is that the answer is "no".

I think women do notice this at one point in their life and if they study history the relatively few women documented in history is even more telling. I'm not sure if this is embarrassment though - more of a symptom that women are not given enough power or value in our society.
