Yes they are waste. Cancel the service, but I believe you can use it for emergency anyway.

If you need communication to work during a local catistrophy (power outage) then landline phone service is your best bet. They have their own battery power supply.

1. The wired telephone works FAR better then wireless or IP. Not to mention it will work with the others do not: 2. AT&T wants to kill off the Switched Circuit Network. They do not want to replace the many-decade old Central Office Switches. 60% residential users and 90% of business users want the old wired system. IT WORKS!! When you *need* telephones you want the wired system: 3. Most of my Cell Phone calls and texts are from spammers (aka telemarketers.)

It is always nice to have a no frills landline.. Especially in a power failure, a wired phone will still work.. If you lose your cell, or it is dead or broken, you still can make a call. I just keep a cheap 'Measured Rate' line in case.!

Land line phones are far better than any cell phones. Transmission quality is much better on the worst day. During an emergency I would much refer an land line phone as there are no requirements in place that cell sites must have a backup power. If the power goes off so do the cell sites. Your land line phone is powered by the central office.
