Well its more of the amp to have a better sound but. When choosing the pickups, choose the one thats between the bridge pickup and middle pickups. Second to last option on the switch. It thickens the sound a bit. And bring down tone to 5. And reduce treble on the amp.

I've played a Strat for 35 yrs. The bridge pickup is not a good choice for open chords. It is placed in such a way to MAKE it sound treble-y. For open chords and clean single notes , you need to use the neck or middle pickup. Or try the in-between pickup switch positions.
