Leave the guy alone. He deserves to see his kids and your unfortunate children deserve to see him. I'm sure he is a great dad.

If he only gets drunk once every month or two then that's not alcohol addiction. If he drinks daily then that isn't even alcohol addiction meaning if he has a few beers and that's it. From the little you've written no judge would grant you sole custody for a few drunken nights every few months. Maybe you just bring it up to him that he sounded drunk when he called for Christmas and that made you uncomfortable when it came to talking to the kids? It's a holiday so many people were drunk WITH friends and family around. If was drunk with the kids that's a different story so just raise your children together and if he gets drunk every once in a while then at least he's not with them.
