You should take it to an auto parts store that does complimentary scans to see what is going on. It may pinpoint the problem and it may not. Auto parts stores that do complimentary scans: Auto Zone Advance O'Reilly's

I have had similar when the MAF is dirty - mostly due to having a K&N filter in place of the stock unit. Pulling the MAF and cleaning it with MAF cleaner solved the idle hunting/sputtering for my 'balt.
