For those of you who don't know any better the 65/66 Chevy Caprice was a new introduction of an Impala with a new roof line and the 396 big block engine. 325 hp standard. The 66 had a much better tail light treatment than the six round lights which came on the 65. If it has the 325 hp engine still in it and it runs like a new one it should get about 14 MPG on average. It is kind of hard to believe that a 47 year old car has the factory motor unmodified. So there is no telling what the gas mileage would be now nor how long anything will last. It is a nice antique car with out dated running gear unless it has been updated. It would make a nice cruiser with a modern LS style engine and a modern overdrive transmission. It should be painted red and the vinyl top(standard) replaced.

I had a 66 Caprice with 396, 4 speed and 4:10 rear as a daily driver back in the 80s. Aztec bronze with matching Strato bucket interior. Got low teens for mileage doing mix of city street and freeway driving. Much less when I was running the gears with the gas pedal floored. Did like it very much but frame, and general body rust was a problem here in Wisconsin. After fixing it twice, I sold it when the frame started to rust out in a third place. If it's solid and you take care of it, it could last another 48 years. Easy to get parts for now and easy to work on. Can also up grade drive line, suspension, and interior to newer specs and keep old school looks.

Good questions and answers we can't provide you, since that's a near 50-year old car and much depends on how it has lived its life.
