To apply gel, your hair must be damp, not drippy wet. Put a small quarter size gel on your palm, mix them together with your fingers, apply to damp hair. Style using a comb. If you want to free the style, blow dry lightly, like if you want your hair down or spiked, etc.

If you want to remove it completely, you probably need to soak for 3 min before washing (just get it wet once min or something). Other than that, some people(especially asians) have straight hair that normally stands up. So if you don't like that, it has to be 3-4inches minimum and need to use rinse(oil) to keep it down.
