if you want slow motion, then 60 frames per second. The resolution has little to do with dealing with extreme sports. There does not need to be "lots of shaking" due to the "extreme sport" if the camera is correctly mounted to something steady. Megapixel measurement is for still images only. If you are capturing video: 1080 and 720 are horizontal line count per frame. Widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) is common. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_resolution 1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600 or a little over 2 megapixels. 1440 x 1080 = 1,555,200 or under 2 megapixels. 1280 x 720 = 921,600 or under 1 megapixel. Built-in camera optical anti-shake is useful - usually not available in low-end action cams.

It all depends on your choice wether you you want a super slow motion clip or a ful hd clip ! ( 30 fps means that the cam catches 30 pictures per second )
