Anywhere that's dark and private,and a place that would be difficult for any possible prey to follow,they will go down narrow gaps and even under a shed to hide their kittens,its surprising the lengths they go to as to keep kittens safe.

Usually in a place where they think it's safe and a shaded place. Shaded place so other animals are less likely to find them. If the mother thinks the place is unsafe they will find a new location and move them there. Or if the mother comes in contact with a threat near her kittens she will move them as well, cause most likely the threat could of scented her kittens. It's like wild cats (tigers, leopards, etc.) they do the same.
