Lady Lavinia nailed it on the head. America would have been forcefully annexed into the British commonwealth just like Canada, Australia and New Zealand did. America and The British now are the best allies. We can count on the Brits to help us in war or any time of need, just like they can count on us. Despite bad past during the 1700s to mid 1800s. The first and second world war as well as the war on terror have unified our two nations. Americans can travel the UK freely just like they can travel our country freely.

A similar war would have erupted a few decades later, and almost certainly the colonists would have won second time round, especially if it had erupted when Britain was fighting France during the Napoleonic period. But there would have been effects on slavery, and on the rapidity of the development of the USA as a major international player.

Overtime the Colonies would have probably become independent like Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Just without a war and our place in the world probably wouldn't be as prominent as it is now. Though the US wasn't seen as a rising super power till the late 1800s.

History is always going to be different when something big is added or subtracted. It's hard to say exactly what would be different. I'm pretty sure there would have been more revolutions. People came to the new world, to get away from the old one. I'm sure the need to get rid of British rulers, wouldn't change. Canada never revolted against the British. Maybe we'd lost the revolution we would end up like them.
