The Chinese people have a weird idea especially in food for Chinese new year. Its a very special day in the year and they really want to show off to their neighbors and relatives how wealthy and prosperous their family is. The traditional food must be food that can last a long time. It means you have to reheat it over and over again and finally make a gumbo of all the leftovers maybe after 3 days. This way to show your neighbors and relatives the wife does not have to do marketing because they have so much food left to eat. The food that last since I come from South East Asia, will be soy sauce duck, fried turnips with minced pork, roast chicken, mushroom with veggies etc. Personally I think its gross to eat the same thing over and over again, and chose to cook only for the reunion dinner, maybe the next day repeat. and then go for cheeseburgers or pizzas *
