Rosin is made from the resin of pines and other plants. The fresh resin is heated to evaporate off the volatile oils, and you are left with the hardened resin.

Thats odd, my rosin smells like nothing. Many people who do make Rosin dont tell their way of making it, they do, however, Have to add pine sap. They can also add anything else, like gold, silver, lead or copper flecks, saying that it adds to the rosin's ability to grip the string.
