I understand the two phrases this way: "In so far as" is a rather archaic phrase almost synonymous to "as long as". The Earth will revolve around the Sun in so far as (=as long as) it remains within the Sun's gravitation sphere. "In as much as" is also an archaic and wordy phrase. It can be synonymous to either "as long as" or "because". The Earth will revolve around the Sun in as much as (=as long as) it remains within the Sun's gravitation sphere. The Earth revolves around the Sun, in as much as (=because) it remains within the Sun's gravitation sphere. AAA
