Literature is art and art is literature. They are two different aspects of the same thing, as pointed out by a previous answer, a narrative. Art tends to focus on a frozen moment in time within a story, hinting at a past and a future, but literature generally takes you through a linear story. The beauty of it all is there are no definitive rules.
