1. Proteins 2. Fats 3.Carbohydrates 4.Vitamins 5. Minerals 6. Water and 7. if you're french or your mum happens to be french, chocolate. Okay, you don't have to use number 7! There's a joke that chocolate is so important to the french (eg my mum) that they consider it to be a food group all on its own. Why should a person need to avoid fats after an operation?!? *Confused*. Having had numerous surgeries that I've long since stopped counting, never once have I been told to avoid fats. Far from it; as a "heart kid" everyone is always trying to put more fats down my throat! The *ONE* thing that doctors love to restrict more than anything else (as every Fontan kid knows!) is water; they're obsessed with imposing their fluid restrictions post-surrgery. ------------------------- Are you sure you've posted the whole question r.e. avoiding which food group after an operation? The only reason that makes any sense to me as to why one might want to limit fats in their diet after surgery would be if they'd had their gall bladder removed.
