There is very little that you can control with that camera. use the scene modes - indoor for indoors and landscape for landscape. If that doesn't do it for you then consider upgrading to a camera that gives you some control

Put it on full Auto (or might be called Programme). 90% of the time you will get good results. Apart from that, the best way is to experiment. Take several pictures of one scene with different settings and see how they differ from one another.
