My favorite surname source says just this: 1) Delaine Name Meaning (Delaisne) habitational name for someone from Aisne department. 2) (Delainé): from the nickname l’aîné ‘the oldest’, denoting the firstborn son of a family. Source: Dictionary of American Family Names ©2013, Oxford University Press Wikipedia tells me "Aisne is a French department in the Picardy region of northern France. It is named after the river...." The Mormons have just 3,722 results for Name: Delaine with that exact spelling. By contrast, they have over 150,000 for "Pack", which is uncommon, and over 28 million for "Smith".
