try diskmgmt.msc [run from a dos box] it is VERY powerful if you can see your flashdrive in the produced screen, you might be able to do something with the program. Make sure just your flash drive is in focus[highlighted] I had that problem once. It is sometimes a virus. BTW if you ever buy another one, format it first as frequently there are other built in programs.

some pendrives have a little switch (similar to sd and other cards)
