Taking something for granted means you don't really appreciate or think about it. It has always been there and you think it always will be. He always took his health for granted until he was diagnosed with cancer. His mother always made his bed, did his laundry and cooked for him. He took her for granted, but until he moved out on his own, he never really appreciated or thought about all the things she did for him. Hope this helps.

it means to think of a thing as though it is normal and the only way things could be. It is usually used to mean something that is only good because of a lot of unseen or unmentioned things that make the good thing exist, and that the good thing may not last in part BECAUSE the person does not understand the importance of all those other things. By ignoring those other things, the person risks losing the good thing. It doesn't have to be that way and the person better recognize that fact very soon or it will no longer BE that way.
