I think this is a great idea. We did a "booze cruise" for a friends bday this summer and had a great time. He sent a "message in a bottle" for an invitation. You can find them at a local craft store, just small bottles with little quarks and then print out the invitation and for dramatic effect burn the edges. Then roll them and place them in the bottle. You should be able to mail them for about $1.50 each for postage.

That is a great idea. It would also be nice to hire a performer like a singer to entertain your guest. If not, try doing a theme party like a masquerade or party games like pictionary.
