Comforters are not just for show. They are for warmth, but they're also pretty. But you don't need a comforter to protect a comforter. If your comforters are ripping, what are you doing? And clip your toenails.

Get a Duvet cover for your comforter that can be taken off and washed as needed. You can go fancy or plain but it protects the comforter from wear and tear. They are so expensive, you want them to last. Look in the linens departments of most stores that sell sheets and bedspreads. The added expense is worth it.

Mine is just fine. I find that one is more than enough in the winter. I cover it with a generic type of cover, then have that cover cleaned, washed, professionally once a year. My washer is big enough, but I will never be able to iron it.
