you should be saving at least 1/2 of your income by living at home. not just 10 grand

If you are living at home you should save a lot more then that. Normal living expenses will be at least £2.5k a month, so stick that in the bank. That will give you £30k saved, or £180k at 30, a more reasonable down payment.
