First of all, PAs are not going to vanish. Second, in many states a PA is just as autonomous as a NP, and not in all states is a NP fully autonomous either. So you need to choose based upon their philosophy of practice, and where you live. In some states NPs are more numerous and others tend to favor PAs. First and foremost a NP is a nurse, so if the nursing model and philosophy does not appeal (or working as a nurse, but they do far more than empty bed pans, BTW), then you should consider the PA route.
