There's no "one size fits all" answer. You'll have to look at coverages and plan specs and costs to see what way works out better for you. I can tell you, however, that it is rarely cost effective to have BOTH spouses covered under BOTH plans.

You really need to look at what the total premium would be if you both got individual policies. Many employers pay a larger portion of the premium for the employee than for the rest of the employees dependents. For example, an employer may pay 90% of the premium for the employee but only 50% of the premium for the spouse. If both your company and your wife's company pay this way, it is likely that you will save money. Also, you should look at the deductibles you will need to satisfy. If there are only two of you, it will probably not make a difference as both will require you to satisfy the personal and family deductibles. And finally, look at the benefits provided. One may the clear winner when it comes to copays, deductibles and overall premiums.
