er im not sure but it would be like this: 2x + 2y = 500 then you solve for x : 2x = -2y + 500 x = -y + 250

Since there are 2 unknown numbers (X and Y), there wont be an exact value of either one, but you will know the value of the sum and/or product of them (X+Y and X x Y). And that can get you the area. So the equations to get area from just the perimiter are: (equations with a * find possible values for the variables) P=500 P=X+Y 500=X+Y 500-X=Y Y=X* 2X=500* X=500/2* X=250* W=500-X* W=250* A=X x Y A=250 x 250* A=62500 This is confusing but anyways thats the area of the playground. As i said before, the equations with a * mean that they find 1 possible value of X and Y. but no matter what values you get, you will get an area of 62500 units.
