you need to make sure there is no danger of it getting below 32 degrees before you plant or they will not live. it says on the seed pack how long it takes until harvest.

I am in Zone 8b and we don't plant peas or beans until mid-March in most years and depending on the variety planted they are ready to harvest late May to the end of June.

You do have frost in winter even though it varies according to how far from the coast you are, how far south you are, and how high is your elevation. I think that if you plant in mid February you will be okay because peas love colder weather. So you are looking for harvest time in mid may. If you use horse manure, it will keep you seeds and roots warm for a while. Do not be afraid to plant right in it. If you use steer manure, it will burn your plants. Birds love the green parts of the peas, so you may want to hang a couple of old cd's to scare them away.
