Bed bugs bite in '3s', meaning you will see three bites in a row very close to one another. If she suspects that she has bed bugs, then she should capture one on a piece of scotch tape and take it to the local health department for a positive identification. If you too are concerned, then I would stay away from her home until you both know for sure what her 'tiny livestock' are.
