Do you have a 5Ghz adapter in the desktop????

check to make sure you have the right network controllers to support your new router if so you might wont to look into getting a new nic (network interface card) because that is probably the problem

Does the desktop have a dual-band wireless adapter? Look at your PC specs, most don't.

When you activated your old router, did you disable the 2.4 GHz band for the testing? Unless something really weird is going on, it sounds to me like its a single band card. What is make/model on the NIC?
