If you want a long lasting, sporty car your best bet are the Japanese made tuner cars. Like the Honda Civic Si, Honda CRZ, Subaru Impreza (WRX STi if you have the money), Mitsubishi Lancer (Evo if you have the money), Scion FR-S. Japanese cars last longer. Volkswagen also makes decent sporty cars like the Golf GTI. Reliability is not that bad either

CRaZ, new enough for Honda factory warranty. check w/ at least 2 finance managers & Honda dealers.
