One hundred percent polyester fabric does not shrink, and running it through the dryer when the label indicates not to could result in a permanent change to the finish or texture of the fabric without a change in the size. If you have access to a sewing machine, take in the side seams; this can even be done using hand sewing. If you decide to take the item to a tailoring shop, let the tailor do all the pinning for the new seam allowance.
